Echoes of Silence is a short, silent act that tackles the subject of eve teasing. The silence transcends all communication barriers and brings out the feelings of shame and suppression associated with the subject. It is a form of experimental and group theater that underlines the apathy of the society.
Through Echoes of Silence, we hoped to provide the audience a gripping experience as they watched the events unfold on stage. Because the act itself is without dialog, music is as integral to it, as the rest of the cast, and not merely a background score. So the music needed to work hand in hand with the actors to bring the intense theme alive. The original music pieces are all weaved around the notes of a rather sombre raag- Bibhaas. While the entire music score is performed on only one instrument - the keyboard, it uses a variety of mainly strings based tones to provide a deeper, denser finish and follow through. Here, we present the original compositions from the background score. As you can see in the video, several other sound bytes and musical tracks were used to create the ambience for each scene; most notably, the pieces extracted from the intense music of the thriller film - Aamir, composed by Amit Trivedi. Together with the original soundtracks, it helped echo a perfect blend of sounds that complemented the silence, expressions and the intensity of Echoes of Silence. Echoes of Silence has had two performances in Austin, TX - First was on behalf of Austin Performing Arts Club, and the second was a privately organized show, done in collaboration with the instrumental ensemble - Naadbrahma. |
