A brief account of our time log...
The roots of RaagaRanch can be traced back to fall of 2010 when Bhushan & Rashmi met Harjit at his home studio in Round Rock, TX. That evening had no ending and there was a new beginning at the end. It was a whole new world of digital, distributed music production awaiting us and we were fascinated.
At the time, Harjit was working on his album, Old Geet New Beat, under the banner of Baba Music Studio. Around the same time, Bhushan met Vidyesh and they discovered each other's talents when they performed as accompanists at a musical event held by Austin Marathi Mandal (AMM). Bhushan and Vidyesh later met Guru Prasadh - when they performed together for a music concert series in May 2011. Having acquired the new, seemingly magical technology, new instruments and talents, we started the instrumental jam sessions at Baba Music Studio. The jam sessions led to the idea of composing some original music. Shortly after, the set up of basic recording equipment was completed at Rashmi & Bhushan's home. The place was nicknamed R&B Studio. In days to follow, Vidyesh came up with a concept to compose a theme song for AMM's new annual event - Tak Dhina Dhin - in November 2011. Thus our first composition was born. The jamming quartet and the new studio were looking for an official name. Thus the name RaagaRanch was conceived. Raaga - for the fundamental concept of a Raaga in Hindustani Classical Music and Ranch - for the location, as well as for the inclusion of the western musical elements in our core theme of world music. The name was adopted on September 17th 2012. The next opportunity came in the form of the title song for a cultural program - Garja Maharashtra Majha. It was the first song to be released under the RaagaRanch banner. The song remains our most popular and appreciated song. It was appreciated by the likes of well known Marathi musician Kaushal Inamdar. It aired on Indian radio channels in US. GMM song proved to be the accelerator in our journey and we began composing singles on a regular basis. In 2013, we got an opportunity to compose a theme song for Austin Marathi Mandal, as well as the title song and a full fledged background score for a two hour long play - Kassa Ramayan? Aa. Sa. Ramayan. It took us to #1 on the Austin World Music charts on ReverbNation. The recent release - Maiytra Pidhyanche was our first attempt to enter a national level competition and we are thrilled to finish in the top 5. Apart from the musical ventures, RaagaRanch enthusiasts also enjoy working on making video promos and post production of video programming. We are always on the lookout for like minded, talented individuals to collaborate with. Depending on the needs of the song, we also work with artists from overseas to get the desired musical pieces done. The world of digital music production is truly fascinating! |
